Biography
Life
Gauri Pathare came to a full-time musical life by an unusual route, holding a degree in computer science from the University of Pune alongside a string of inter-collegiate, inter-university and inter-state prizes and a win at the All India Radio competition.
Her first training was with Gangadharbuwa Pimpalkhare of the Kirana gharana. She then studied for several years with Jitendra Abhisheki and with Padma Talwalkar, and since 2010 has taken Jaipur gharana training from Arun Dravid. Her khayal draws on all three schools rather than one, and she has worked on voice culture with the Dhrupad singer Syeeduddin Dagar. In her early years she sang as vocal accompaniment in Suresh Talwalkar's taal maala concerts.
She has appeared at many of the major Indian festivals, among them the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav, the Tansen festival, the Kesarbai Kerkar Sammelan and the Kumar Gandharva Sangeet Sammelan, and performs and teaches regularly abroad.
