Using this archive
The Indian Music Archive is a non-commercial editorial project run by one person. Reading it is free and open to everyone. These terms describe what you may do with what you find here, and what we ask of you in return.
Reading and sharing
No account is needed to read any public page. You are welcome to link to any page, quote short passages with attribution to The Indian Music Archive, and share what you find. Wholesale copying of the written pages, or republishing them as your own, is not permitted.
Photographs and recordings shown here belong to their photographers, performers and rights holders, not to this archive. Each image carries its credit and the permission or licence it is published under; reuse is governed by that licence, not by these terms. Recordings are embedded from official channels and remain subject to those platforms’ own terms.
Accounts
An account is optional. If you create one, keep your sign-in details to yourself and give us an email address you actually control. We may suspend an account that is used to impersonate someone, to misrepresent a connection to a musician, or to disrupt the archive. You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it at any time.
Editorial access
Editing an artist page is by invitation only. Invitations are sent to a specific email address for a specific page, expire after seven days, and can be used once. An invited editor may update the page they were given and nothing else; they may not grant access to others, change roles, or delete the page. Access can be withdrawn at any time, including where a claimed connection to a musician turns out to be untrue.
If you edit a page, you confirm that what you add is accurate, that you can point to a source for it, and that you hold or have been given the rights to any photograph you upload. Every change is recorded with who made it and when, and can be reversed.
Contributions
When you send us a correction, a source, a photograph or a memory, you keep whatever rights you hold in it and you give this archive permission to publish it here with appropriate credit. Please do not send anything you do not have the right to share. Nothing is published simply because it was sent; an editor reads it first, and we may edit, decline or later remove any contribution.
Accuracy
Pages are written from published sources, which are listed on each page, and gaps and disagreements are shown openly rather than smoothed over. Even so, this is a living record and it will contain mistakes. It is offered as it stands, without warranty, and it is not a substitute for primary research. Tell us when something is wrong and we will look at it properly.
Rights concerns and removal
If you are a musician, a family member, a representative or a rights holder and something here is wrong, out of date, or should not be published, write to deekshant@indianmusicarchive.org or use the rights concern form. We record every request and reply.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, the change will be described here rather than made quietly.
