Biography

Life

Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore in 1929 into the family of the singer and theatre actor Dinanath Mangeshkar, and began recording for Hindi films in the 1940s. Her work with Madan Mohan runs through this archive's first film-music collection: "Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha" (Anpadh, 1962), "Lag Jaa Gale" and "Naina Barse Rimjhim" (Woh Kaun Thi?, 1964) and "Mera Saaya Saath Hoga" (Mera Saaya, 1966).

Her wider career, honours and recordings in other languages are queued for research rather than summarised here from memory.
