Life
Shounak Abhisheki is a vocalist and composer working across classical, semi-classical and devotional music, and a central figure in Marathi Natya Sangeet. He is the son and disciple of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, and his singing is usually described as combining the Agra and Jaipur approaches his father drew on. He also trained with Kamaltai Tambe of the Jaipur gharana.
He has built concert programmes around his father's work, among them Swarabhishek, Tulsi Ke Ram, Kabir and Abhang, and has performed at Indian festivals and in concert series in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, the Persian Gulf and Thailand.
His recordings have been issued by labels including Sony Music, Times Music, Music Today, Ninad Music, Music Curry and Fountain Music. His awards include the Balgandharva Puraskar, the Zee Gaurav Puraskar, the NCPA Excellence Award, the Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar Puraskar from the Marathi Natyaparishad, the Saraswatibai Rane Puraskar and the Symbiosis University Cultural Award.
