Biography

Life

Krushna Salunke first learnt the pakhawaj in Beed, from Bharat Maharaj Sodgir and Vishnupanth Londhe, and then went on to train with Pandit Suresh Talwalkar in Pune, according to Pune Mirror's 2019 preview of the Bhavitavya festival. He began, in other words, within the devotional pakhawaj of Maharashtra, then moved into a teacher's circle known for its work on laya and taal.

In 2016 he won the music competition at the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan in Jalandhar, one of the oldest music festivals in India, and the next year the 142nd sammelan invited him back to give a full solo recital as the previous year's winner.

In September 2019 he opened Bhavitavya, the young-artists' festival that Sa Va Ni Events and the National Centre for the Performing Arts present in Pune. A panel that included Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Yogesh Samsi and Talwalkar himself picked eight performers from about ninety applicants, and the organisers billed Salunke as Talwalkar's disciple.

He often plays duets with other young pakhawaj players. Abhijat Music Forum has recorded him in Dhamar with Omkar Dalvi at its Lonavala–Khandala residential sammelan, and in Chautaal and Aaditaal with Rohit Khavale.

He teaches at Krushnanaad Pakhawaj Gurukul in Pune, which he founded, and has created a devotional pakhawaj presentation called Pakhawaj Shivtandav.
